Mater Al-Tayer Receives Delegation of International Swimming Federation
H.E. Mater Mohammed Al-Tayer the Deputy Chairman of DSC received the delegation’s members of the International Swimming Federation who are in a current visit to Dubai. The Delegation includes Mr. Cornell Marcolescu the Executive Director of the International Swimming Federation and Mr. Peter Haul the Officer of the Marketing Committee in the International Swimming Federation.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharif the Secretary General of DSC & Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the World Swimming Championship – Dubai 2010 / H.E. Saeed Harib Member of the Executive Office in DSC and Deputy Chairman of Local Organizing Committee of the Championship / Mr. Obaid Salim the Executive Director of the Championship.
The meeting reviewed the preparations process, carried out by Dubai to host this World Championship – to be held for the first time in the Arab & Middle East area / tackled the distinctive relations between UAE and the International Swimming Federation, as part of which Dubai hosted the meetings of the International Swimming Federation in March 2009 and will host the World Swimming Championship this year along with other world swimming competitions in the open water.
H.E. Al-Tayer confirmed to the Delegation’s members that UAE leadership backs sports sector and supports all sports forums, championships & events hosted in the country, part of which are the Beach Soccer World Cup held in Nov. 2009 in Dubai and the FIFA Clubs World Cup held in Dec. 2009 in Abu Dhabi.
Mr. Marcolescu pointed out that both the International Swimming Federation and the world sports community are confident of the UAE’s high-level organizational abilities. In this context, he referred that UAE enjoys high quailed & experienced technicians & administrators / several sports & tourist facilities / great development in the transports, communication & services sectors.
The delegation’s members are in a current visit to Dubai to hold meeting with the Local Organizing Committee of the Championship / follow the preparations process for the Championship to be held from 15th to 19th Dec. 2010 with participation of more than 130 countries / be acquainted with the process of work in the sports complex – constructed currently to host the Championship.
The delegation also attended the inauguration of a program held by DSC to teach more than 10 thousand children the techniques of swimming. The program – which was launched Tuesday 2nd Feb. 2010 – is to be carried out in coordination with UAE Swimming Federation / Dubai Schools / Dubai clubs.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharif the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the Championship held meetings with the delegation’s members of the International Swimming Federation in the presence of H.E. Saeed Harib the Deputy Chairman of Local Organizing Committee of the Championship / Mr. Obaid Salim the Executive Director of the Championship.
The meeting reviewed the process of works to be carried by the committees of the Championship / mechanism & plans of work.
The Delegation visited the premises of the Local Organizing Committee which includes staff offices – equipped with the most modern devices & means of communication.
The Executive Director of the International Swimming Federation expressed his happiness with the premises’ modern equipment & qualified/experienced staff. He stated that such preparations confirm the great efforts exerted by the Local Organizing Committee of the Championship to host the event in such a distinctive & splendid way that copes with the level of UAE.
